A unionized worker who participated in a mass demonstration held near POSCO's head office in Pohang last month died in hospital early yesterday morning, 15 days after he was injured in a clash with riot police.
The man, only identified by his surname Ha, had been in a coma due to head injuries since July 16.
Ha was hit on the head by shields wielded by riot police, claimed the Korean Confederation Trade and Union. Police denied the accusation.
Ha was participating in a mass protest in support of unionized construction workers who occupied POSCO headquarters for nine days demanding better wages and improved working conditions.
